Merel Westrik vervangt Dieuwertje Blok bij Sinterklaasjournaal

Journalist and presenter Merel Westrik will replace Dieuwertje Blok as presenter of the Sinterklaasjournaal this year This was reported by the NTR, which has been broadcasting the program since 2001.

Due to cancer, the presenter’s nose had to be amputated. The disease started with Blok with a small hard spot in her nose, later it turned out to be skin cancer. That seemed easy to combat, but that turned out not to be the case.

Helper

The 44-year-old Westrik is delighted to temporarily present the Sinterklaasjournaal . “Sinterklaas is helped by the Pieten every year, I am now Dieuwertje’s helper, as long as she needs me. I find it an honour that she entrusts me with this task,” she says in a press release.

Merel Westrik presented RTL News between 2014 and 2019 and later made several programs for Net5. For several months now, she has been on the radio as a newsreader and sidekick in the Coen and Sander Show on JOE.

Dieuwertje Blok will not be presenting Het Sinterklaasjournaal for the first time since the program started . She recently had to undergo a nose amputation due to cancer. The presenter did not recover in time, so Merel Westrik will take over the presentation.
The Sinterklaasjournaal has been on television since 2001 and has been presented by Blok ever since. The NTR, the broadcaster behind the program, announces that “the duration of the treatment” of the presenter makes it impossible for her to take on the presentation this year. Blok announced earlier this year that she had cancer in her nose and therefore had to undergo surgery.

NTR editor-in-chief and creator of Het Sinterklaasjournaal Ajé Boschhuizen asked Westrik to replace him. “Sinterklaas is helped by the Pieten every year. I am now Dieuwertje’s helper, as long as she needs me. I find it an honor that she entrusts me with this task,” the presenter said in a response.

As a result of the cancer, the 67-year-old Blok, who resigned from her work in April, has to have her nose amputated.
